Ballet Teacher Wanted

BalletNova is looking for an experienced teacher with a strong background in teaching classical ballet.   Requires at least 5 years prior experience as a ballet dancer or teacher and demonstrated success working with both children and adults. This position will be teaching ballet classes in our children's division for ages ranging from 3 - 10 years old and adult intro ballet classes.  The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, outgoing, and a dedicated individual with good communications skills and posses a genuine love for dancing.  Compensation for this contracted position depends on experience level.  Email resumes and letter of intent to admin@BalletNova.org

 

Part-time Technical Director

The part-time Technical Director is responsible for the technical operations of BalletNova's new performance space, including, but not limited to, lighting, sound and necessary maintenance. Email resume and letter of intent to: admin@BalletNova.org

 Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years experience with technical theatre
  • Knowledge of lighting systems and designs required
  • Knowledge of sound systems and mixing required
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must be trustworthy and willing to undergo a background check
  • Dance/Performance production and/or stage management background a plus
  • Ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 30 pounds safely and using appropriate tools

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, and other equipment, and the use and maintenance of facilities.

  • Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for performances.

  • Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment and requests supplies to be ordered as needed.

  • Attends technical rehearsals, in order to provide the technical aspects of the performance group.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers, and others

  • Hours as needed for performance rentals. Work days/hours typically include Friday nights, Saturday afternoons and evening and Sunday afternoons.

Seasonal Production Crew

Looking for dedicated, highly motivated individuals to work backstage for mainstage productions in December and May. Responsibilities include load-in and strike, and backstage set and prop work during tech and performances. Candidates must be trustworthy with strong organizational and communication skills, knowledge of technical theater required, understanding of dance and music preferred. Email resume and letter of intent to: admin@BalletNova.org

Internships

BalletNova offers hands on experience in a small non-profit performing arts organization.  This program provides in depth knowledge and on-the-job training and career guidance for students and young professionals pursing careers in arts administrations, marketing, public relations, or fundraising.  Interns are expected to commit to a regular schedule of part-time hours.  Benefits include free dance classes, free tickets to BalletNova performances, assistance in fulfilling college credit requirements, career counseling and an evaluation process.  These are unpaid internships.

Term: 10 weeks or more, these dates are flexible:

  • Fall - September 1-November 30
  • Winter - December 1- February 28
  • Spring – March 1 - May 15
  • Summer - June 1 - August 7

Marketing/Public Relations Intern

Looking for a dedicated, highly motivated individual who wants to gain experience working in an non-profit arts organization, and learn the ins and outs of marketing and communication strategies and implementation. Be part of a team that is changing the face of dance in Northern Virginia.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirements: enrolled in undergraduate Bachelors degree program or graduate program in arts management, marketing, public relations or business
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel; familiarity with databases a plus
  • Course work in marketing, public relations, special events management, and/or communications
  • Dance background a plus
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Good communication skills; outgoing personality
  • Experience publishing content to Web a plus
  • Participation and interest in social media

Job Responsibilities

  • Update and revise media contact list
  • Assist in development and implementation of communications plan
  • Pitch content and features to print media, news sites, community networking sites, and blogs
  • Send out weekly Facebook bulletins
  • Update website on a weekly basis
  • Participate in marketing efforts for school, performances and events
  • Participate in branding effort including focus groups, conducting and analyzing surveys (learning to use SurveyMonkey)
  • Post tweets daily; track and report on progress and response
  • Send (and possibly draft) press releases for performances, classes and other events
  • Draft email communication bi-weekly
  • Answer phones, assist with administrative tasks as needed

Development/Fundraising Intern

Looking for a dedicated, highly motivated individual who wants to gain experience working in a non-profit arts organization, and learn the ins and outs of fundraising and development strategies and implementation. Be part of a team that is changing the face of dance in Northern Virginia.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirements: enrolled in undergraduate Bachelor’s degree program, or graduate program in arts management (arts administration, business, development or special events preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel; familiarity with databases a plus
  • Course work in fundraising, grant writing, special events management, and/or corporate development
  • Dance background a plus
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Good communication skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in developing and administering Individual Giving program – tracks gifts, sends donor thank yous, special programs for upper level donors, fulfill donor level benefits
  • Assists with coordination of special fundraising events (such as Nutcracker VIP reception, Spring Fashion Show,  donor cultivation and acknowledgement receptions)
  • Identifies and contacts local businesses for Corporate Sponsorship program; tracks and reports on progress
  • Answer phones, assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist with foundation research; learn to use Foundation Center central database
  • Draft grant applications for corporations and foundations
  • Work on new Linked-In development program

Production Intern

Looking for a dedicated, highly motivated individual who wants to gain experience working in a non-profit arts organization, and learn the ins and outs of production management. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirements: engaged in High School Theatre Arts, enrolled in undergraduate Bachelor’s degree program, or graduate program in arts management or theater production
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Course work in stage crew, performance load-in and strike, and/or exposure to the technical elements
  • Dance background a plus
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Good communication skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in coordinating BalletNova productions with set, props, costumes, lights, etc. from load-in, run and strike.
  • Assists with communication to designers, directors and dancers.
  • Help with schedules for rehearsal, staff coverage, etc.
  • Answer phones, assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Work back-stage during the show in some capacity.
