FY17 Board of Directors

Sharon O. Steele, Esq.

Attorney; Managing Partner/Owner Steele Consulting Group, LLC

Ms. Sharon O. Steele is an attorney and Managing Partner/Owner of Steele Consulting Group, LLC, a law practice focused on government litigation, public contract and procurement issues, and governmental and regulatory affairs matters. Sharon has represented clients seeking government contracts, including filing and defending bid protests on the state, county, and municipal levels as well as defending clients in government investigations. Prior to engaging in her own law practice, Sharon served for 15+ years in lead legal and procurement roles with corporations such as:  Lockheed Martin, SAIC, University of Mary Washington and KBR.  Ms. Steele has always been engaged in the dance community whether it was as a young dancer accepted into the Certificate Program of the Alvin Ailey American Dance, or as an adult dance student with BalletNova. Ms. Steele holds a Juris Doctorate from Pennsylvania State University, a B.S. in Political Science from James Madison. 

Shannon MacGregor, MBA, CAE

CFO; Consultant

Ms. MacGregor has a background in business and financial leadership with a specialty in managing non-profit associations. Most recently served as the CFO for the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) in Alexandria. Ms. MacGregor saw BalletNova's commercial and was impressed with the overall image and branding, and was delighted to join the board and be able to give back to the community she lives in. She began her professional career in Sydney, Australia as a Chartered Accountant for two multi-national corporations and earned her M.B.A. in Finance from Marymount University after returning to the U.S.  In addition to owning her own financial consulting business for seven years, Ms. MacGregor was the Divisional Controller of Woodward & Lothrop, a $1 billion retailer.  In addition to having a keen interest in the arts, she has been involved with several ballroom dance programs over the years, and most recently with an urban soul dancing club.

Adrienne Geis

Executive Vice President; Integrated Systems Analysts, Inc

Ms. Geis has a multi-disciplined background and experience in large telecommunication information systems design, and management as well as small business operations, accounting, and development.  She is a proven leader skilled in budget management, vendor management and outsourcing, contract management, client interaction, and strategic thinking.  Ms. Geis has served as a director of client administration systems, managing multiple software releases and technology architecture conversions for a Fortune 500 firm and managed budgets between $5 million and $10 million. Ms. Geis studied ballet, tap, and jazz as a young girl, and now dances competitively in the local ballroom community.  In addition to supporting the arts, Ms. Geis enjoys designing and decorating her own costumes, the fiber arts, reading, and watching football in her spare time. She holds a M.B.A. in Finance from St. Joseph's University, and a B.S. in Business Computer Systems Analysis from St. Vincent College, and a top secret clearance. Naomi Pizarro, PHR
Past President

International Human Resources Professional; Fletcher and Associates, Inc.

Naomi Pizarro comes to BalletNova with more than 20 years of experience in international human resources management. One of the original dancers from the earliest days of BalletNova (when it was known as the Arlington Center for Dance), Ms. Pizarro has maintained her love for dance and has come full circle now to join us as a member of the Board. Her professional experience spans organizations in the Washington metropolitan area with 50 to 300+ employees, and some with field staff worldwide, including in high conflict areas such as Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, in addition to countries nation-wide in Africa and the Middle East. In her past positions, Ms. Pizarro has ensured that staff recruitment, hiring and development, employee relations and the overall human resources strategic direction complements and responds to the strategic long and short-term goals of the organizations.  She has a certificate in Human Resources Management from the George Mason University, is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and by the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). In addition to her love for dance, she enjoys traveling, sailing and spending time in her native Northern Virginia with her family. 

Suzie Smyth

CEO; Endless Possibilities, LLC

Ms. Smyth is a growth strategist dedicated to driving increased awareness and profits for clients through her company, Endless Possibilities, LLC.  Throughout her career, she has driven improved productivity in both the public and private sector with her ability to optimize variables for maximum return.  Ms. Smyth leverages her strategic planning skills to develop solutions that meet business objectives and align with over-arching company goals. Clients appreciate her ability to provide structure while leading complex operations in a dynamic environment.  Ms. Smyth earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering with honors, with distinction from Penn State University, and an M.B.A. from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University as valedictorian.  As a member of the Adult Tap Dancing community since Fall 2014, she has found a welcoming, supportive community in BalletNova and is excited to share this wonderful experience with others.

Jennifer Walcott

Co-chair, Development Committee

Principal, Deloitte Consulting

Ms. Walcott is a Principal with Deloitte Consulting.  She joined Deloitte in their Chicago office, where she led projects in state and local market and focuses today on federal clients across both the civilian and defense sectors, including the Department of Labor, the Department of Transportation, the US Army, and the Department of Homeland Security.  She also serves as the leader of Deloitte’s federal undergraduate recruiting program and a member of the Board of Governors for Deloitte’s GovLab program, which conducts research into key issues and emerging ideas shaping the public, private and non-profit sectors.  A former dancer herself (with the dance company at her alma mater, Williams College and a winter study with Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro) Ms. Walcott combines her love of dance with significant experience in strategic planning, financial management, performance management, benchmarking and stakeholder engagement.  She holds a B.A. with honors in history from Williams College.
