Virginia Dance Coalition
A Community Voice for Dance in Fairfax County.
In May 2008, several dance studios and companies of Fairfax County came together under the auspices of the Arts Council of Fairfax County to address performance venue issues facing the unique needs of the dance community. They worked with the Northern Virginia Community College - Annandale Campus Theatre to recommend renovations and improvements.
These founding organizations realized that they have common interests in working together: growing the audience and support for dance in Fairfax County, improving the performance venues available, and solving challenges to dance studios and companies that individually are difficult to overcome. They became , the Fairfax County Dance Coalition.
Recognizing that the performing arts have not been well supported in Fairfax County, and that there is no current dance arts community type organization in Northern Virginia, in June 2009, the group decided to form the Virginia Dance Coalition, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. BalletNova has been an active member since 2010.
The FCDC produces a Gala Performance each year highlighting the best of dance in Virginia, held at the Ernst Cultural Center at the Northern Virginia Community College – Annandale Campus. Additionally, the VADC offers a $1000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior planning a career in dance.
